University Professorship for Spatial Design

The Vienna University of Technology invites applicants for the following position at the Faculty for Architecture and Planning:

University Professorship for Spatial Design

The professorship is initially limited to a duration of 5 years and after a positive evaluation can be converted into a permanent contract.

The holder of the position is expected to fulfil the theoretical as well as artistic/practical qualifications in the field of spatial design. In this context, spatial design is anchored at the intersection between art, architecture and design with the focus on spatial solutions and their effects on the users and the environment. The focal points comprise all aspects and scales of architectural space in its relational fields towards the city, the landscape and social, cultural and societal factors. Besides the implementation, structuring, materialisation, perception and the atmospheric qualities of space, it additionally concerns experimental approaches to holistic concepts of space in the artistic, social, ecological and economic respect. As part of the fundamental understanding of interdisciplinary teaching, particular emphasis is placed on a close connection to other disciplinary fields of architecture and spatial planning.

The professorship is integrated into the bachelor’s and master’s architecture courses. A special challenge is the comprehensive promotion and representation of the discipline in research and teaching and to develop specific didactic models to this end. A further precondition is the active collaboration in faculty matters and committees as well as the competence and openness for interdisciplinary cooperation and the ability to work in a team.
